State BJP Spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo slammed Congress party's former State president Sukhdeo Bhagat on Tuesday for accusing the BJP government of favouring industrialists over commoners.
Minutes after Bhagat criticised the Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the centre, Shahdeo came down heavily on the Lohardaga legislator and said that the Congress party had a habit of waking up from its slumber only during the election season.
“The Congress party tends to remember the people of India only during the election season. In fear of a major announcement during the union budget, they have started talking about minimum income guarantee scheme," said Shahdeo.
Earlier in the day, Shahdeo told the media that the Congress party will come up with a minimum income scheme for all the poor citizens of the country if it wins the 2019 general elections. He also flayed the BJP for allegedly failing to work for the benefits of the poor.
"The Congress has ruined our country. At the time of independence, our economy was at par with China. Now, see how their (Congress party's) poor economic policies have affected the entire country in adverse ways," said Shahdeo.
Shahdeo also took a jibe at Bhagat for his remarks on how the Congress strengthened the MGNREGA by ensuring 100 days of wage for every worker.
"The MGNREGA scheme that Bhagat ji is boasting about was riddled with corruption until the NDA government came to power," he said,
The NDA, he said, connected bank accounts of every worker with MGNREGA and also opened bank accounts of all the poor citizens of the country for direct benefit transfer.
"We ensured gas connections for the poor, toilets in their houses, and also shelter for many under the Prime Minister's Awas Yojana," Shahdeo said.
