Despite government extending Holding Tax collection period for another fortnight, the Congress party is not appearing in a mood to let the civic body go unhurt on the issue.
Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay said today that the party was there only to keep adding fuel to the burning fire of Holding Tax hike related any of the protests, calling the move a barbarian one. He also came down heavily on government, saying that so called investment attracting measures like Global Investors Summit (GIS) was just another way to deceit locals of the State.
“The city is no better than a slum at any front. There are no civic facilities for residents in any part of the city even after 16 years of State formation. Holding Tax hike, that also around 800 percent, in such a pathetic situation is something rubbing salt on the wounds. We urge common people across the State to come forward and participate in agitations until the government removes this hike,” said Sahay.
Mocking GIS and its mascot, Sahay said that the elephants on land have been killing people here and there all around, destroying crops. “On the one hand, the government is not able to protect its farmers and innocent people from elephants, and on the other hand, Chief Minister Raghubar Das is trying to make invited investors fool of dreaming a flying elephant,” said Sahay.
The Congress which was getting prepared to protest GIS and support protestors who were planning to organise agitations against Government on February 16-17 when the event is scheduled to be organised, seems to have been completely baffled with the police imposing prohibitory orders in the city during February 15-18. This imposition has forced the party to postpone its agitations planned on those days.
