Congress has planned to stroll villages to make better connect with people while highlighting land acquisition and farmers’ issues. The ‘Gaon-gaon- paon paon’ programme would cover entire State starting from May 21; the berth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The decision was taken on Friday in a meeting of State Congress in the leadership of Pradesh Congress Committee president Sukhdeo Bhagat. “We have decided to kick start the ‘Gaon-gaon- paon paon’ programme on May 21 in which opinion would be built against the black legislation land Acquisition Bill. We would inform people, especially farmers against the provisions kept in the Bill. We would also highlight the plight of the farmers under the new regime,” said Sukhdeo Bhagat after the meeting.

The drive of the party is an extension of its programme taken up nationally involving its national president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi. The PCC president added the provisions in the legislation were especially detrimental to the interest of tribal, labourers and farmers residing in Jharkhand. “The Congress has started its fight against the black Ordinance. We under the programme would visit every panchayat of the State and make people aware about the provisions. The firth would continue till the Ordinance is not taken back by the Center,” added Bhagat. The party, to make the programme a success, would convene a meeting of all its cells and departments in which responsibilities of all the in-charges and leaders would be fixed. All the wings of the party would be pressed into action to generate awareness about the programme well in advance.
