Cong to hold organisational polls in July

The Jharkhand Congress is gearing up to hold internal polls through direct election this time around in order to bring the organisation back on the track. The decision in this regard has been taken and the party officials have been told to prepare for the expected July exercise. “We will start organisational election process in July. The elections would be held right from block level to State level and no post would be given to anyone on nomination basis on the recommendation of anyone.

Deviating from the earlier practice even the Pradesh Congress Committee president, vice presidents, general secretaries all would be elected directly and no name would be imposed upon the party from the top,” said Alok Dudey, who has been made election in-charge for the State. M Ramchandran has been given the responsibility at All India Congress Committee level for making the party more democratic in practice.

The step is in sync with Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s letter written to all PCCs seeking suggestions about organisational revamp, reforms on ideological issues and also about the way to conduct with the masses. The party in the State has held several divisional level meetings and on Friday, a similar meeting took place for Kolhan region, covering three districts East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan. AICC leader Tarachand Bhagora and spokesperson Ajay Kumar along with PCC president Sukhdeo Bhagat were present on the occasion.

This apart, the party is also rushing for the target to induct 10 lakh new members by February end. “We have organised membership camps at every level. 25 volunteers have been deputed at every booth to bring people to join the party. To date, we have reached to four lakh mark, but numerous application forms are pending and we hope to meet the target by the time,” said Dubey, who is also looking into the party’s membership campaign. The drive would end with the Jharkhand unit sending its final data to the AICC.

Desperate to come back into mainstream politics after series of poll drubbings, the party has also come up with its website especially for the State where all relevant information and guidance for becoming a member would be given. It would be a more suitable interface of the party with common man, feels the leader.
