As part of the nationwide protest programme against the increase in the prices of petrol-diesel and LPG, a signature campaign was conducted by Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) on Monday in front of petrol pumps across the State.

JPCC Chief cum the State Finance and Food Supplies Minister, Dr Rameshwar Oraon himself took to the roads in protest against the increase in the price of petroleum products and essential commodities. He participated in the signature campaign in front of Bariatu Road Petrol Pump in the State Capital. On this occasion, Agriculture Minister, Badal, former Minister Geetashree Oraon, JPCC Spokesperson, Alok Kumar Dubey, Lal Kishorenath Shahdeo, Rajesh Gupta, Shakeel Akhtar Ansari, senior leaders Madan Mohan Sharma, Firoz Rizvi Munna, Sunny Toppo, Jitendra Trivedi, Shariq Ahmed, Sony Nayak, Vinita Pathak, Kumud Ranjan and other leaders and workers were present.

Oraon himself was the first to sign to ensure the success of the programme. Talking to media persons on the occasion, he said that even though the BJP Government at the Center is in power, now the people will not leave them. He said that from 1947 till date, Congress has taken all steps and worked keeping public interest in mind but the Central Government, intoxicated with power, is not taking any steps to curb inflation.

“This is the reason that the Petroleum Minister has been changed in view of the public anger, but still the price of petrol and diesel is increasing continuously. People are screaming and demanding to reduce inflation and due to increase in the price of petrol and diesel, inflation increases. It affects all essential commodities including rice, pulses, flour, salt and oil. People's income is decreasing and everyone is suffering due to rising inflation, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi is behaving like a Maharaj, as if he has nothing to do with the suffering of the people,” said Oraon.

On this occasion, Agriculture Minister Badal demanded reduction in the price of diesel for the interest of the farmers. He said that the voice of the people would now cross the walls of Raisina and reach the ears of the Prime Minister. “If even now the Central Government does not try to control the price, then a situation of anarchy will arise in the Country,” he added.
