Cong draws Guv's attention to rising crime graph

Rising atrocities against women in recent times in the places like Chatra, Pakur and other parts of the State have prompted Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) to approach the Raj Bhawan. A delegation of the party led by PCC chief Ajoy Kumar handed over a detailed memorandum in this regard to Governor Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday requesting her to apprise the Centre about this.

The delegation, which also included former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay, Jamtara MlA Irfan Ansari, State Women Congress president Abha Sinha and others, cited several incidents of rape having taken place in different parts of the State during last one week.

“The Government has failed miserably on the front of law and order. They just make tall claims about ‘beti bachao-beti padao’ whereas minor girls are being subjected to heinous crimes. It seems there is no system in place in any part of the State,” said Kumar addressing a press conference ahead of meeting the Governor.

He also went on counting crimes of other kinds having taken place in the capital and other places, atrocities against dalits and data of the national crime records bureau. “Not a single day is passed when news of someone getting killed for the sake of extortion, land grabbing etc does not come. People are not feeling safe even in Ranchi but the Chief Minister is just busy for nothing,” said the PCC chief, adding that a dharna in front of Raj Bhawan would be organsied on Wednesday to highlight the issues.

Subodh Kant Sahay blamed red-tapism for the hardship the people were facing in the State. “People of Jharkhand are upset due to the misdeeds of the officers under ‘Raghubar Raj’. Bureaucracy has gone out of control. Murders and rapes are taking place in broad daylight.

The SIT formed after Pundag rape could not crack the case even after one month. By and large people have lost faith on the system and the governance under this dispensation but the Government is just indulged into paper works and is spreading falsehood,” said the senior Congress leader.

Irfan Ansari, apart from hitting out the Government on these issues, also talked about stiff rise in power tariff.

“The Chief Minister had promised for 24 hours electricity supply when he had taken oath. You can see what is condition of power supply in RanchiIJ Then they went on hiking power tariff over 90 per cent. There is not a single field where the Government has given relief to the people of the State,” said the MlA.
