Cong declares committee names

The Congress on Friday announced names for the Jharkhand State Coordination Committee, designed to oversee affairs of the newly-formed coalition. AICC general secretary and Jharkhand in-charge BK Hariprasad has been made chairman.

JPCC president Sukhdeo Bhagat, ClP leader Rajendra Prasad Singh, AICC secretary Tarachand Bhagora, MP Subodh Kant Sahay and former Assembly Speaker Alamgir Alam are other faces from the party. While no name has come from JMM and RJD, Bhagat said the number of members may reach 10. “Names from JMM and RJD are yet to be finalised. It is likely that two members from the former and one from RJD will figure. Possibly, one independent may also be inducted.”

JMM is likely to recommend its nominees late in the evening. Party spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya and Vinod Pandey are expected contenders. From RJD, State president Girinath Singh is the front-runner while independent MlA Bandhu Tirkey may well be given a place, against all odds.

Tirkey met Hariprasad and Digvijay Singh and was told to wait till Monday. “I have put my agenda related to tribal sub-plan, Saranda and local issues before the Congress and said that if you work on these, I will stand behind you with all honesty. If only a place is given (in the committee) and no action is taken on these, then it would not work,” he told The Pioneer from Delhi.

Nonetheless, he hinted a softer stance on his demand for ministership, “provided the Government works with sincerity on these issues.”
