Cong chief in dark over 'massive' protest plan

Going ahead with their different tunes, two Congress MlAs Irfan Ansari and Manoj Kumar Yadav have gone ahead organising a protest against the demonetisation move and CNT-SPT amendments without taking State Congress leadership into loop.

The “massive protest” has been organised at Jamtara, the constituency of Irfan Ansari.

“We have taken consent of our national vice-president Rahul Gandhi and also Jharkhand in-charge BK Hariprasad. The protest would be organised on December 19 at Jamtara and all the leaders from Delhi have been invited for that,” said Ansari. But when asked whether the invitation has also been sent to PCC president Sukhdeo Bhagat and his team, he downplayed it and sounded unsure about their attending the programme.

“I cannot say whether he and his team would come attending the massive protest or not,” said the MlA whose intentions to dislodge Bhagat from the top party post are quite well known. He along with Manoj Yadav leveling heinous charges against the PCC president had gone calling on Rahul Gandhi for his immediate removal in “the larger interest of the party”. This recent activism is being perceived as another attempt to catch attentions of the party’s high command.

However, he remained in ‘wait and watch’ mode about his expedition and instead stressed that the party unit in Jharkhand is not doing enough on the burning issues at hand.

“Demonetisation has caused great deal of trouble for the common people. We want to take forward the fight started by Rahul Gandhi against the move of the Modi Government. This apart, the State Government’s decision to amend CNT and SPT Acts is equally baffling. People of the area are looking suspiciously to us as well.

They feel that we are also involved in this act and thus the exercise was needed to clear the air,” said the MlA.

The MlA duo, at the same time, expressed dissatisfaction over the programmes and policies adopted by the newly formed State Congress committee in the leadership of Sukhdeo Bhagat and stressed that the party needed to go aggressively against the issues. Notably, Bhagat had recently conducted three-day tour of Santhal Pargana region where Irfan Ansari’s absence did not go unnoticed.
