District Congress activists on Thursday hit the streets to register their protest against the land Bill. The party workers took out a protest march due to which traffic went haywire for nearly an hour on the Sakchi and Subernarekha link Road, two important roads of the city.

Nearly 400 Congress activists of the district convened a meeting at Aambagan ground in Sakchi and started marching towards the district collectorate to protest against land Bill and against tampering of Forest Right Act.

SRA Rizwi Chabban senior Congress leader, said the method adopted by the Centre was against established democratic norms and hence anti-people. He said as farmers become aware of the amendments to the Act, they will come out in open as it was an attempt to benefit private players and the corporate lobby.

Congress OBC cell state chairman, Manoj Yadav who was leading the rally admitted of traffic problem to an extend due to the rally. “We are fighting for the cause of the farmers. I admit there were traffic problem but we cannot help. We had given information about our protest rally well in advance to the district administration. Now it was their responsibility to find out solution to the traffic problem,” said Yadav.

“We have submitted the memorandum at district collectorate and requested the President to take this issue which is against poor tribals. The current government has violated norms of CNT Act and SPT Act and serving interest of capitalists,” said Congress OBC cell state chairman, Manoj Yadav.

Meanwhile commuters faced a harrowing time due to the protest.  “Our car got stuck up in the traffic snarl for nearly 30 minutes at the Subernarekha link Road and finally had to take a different route through Marine Drive which took us more than an hour to reach our destination,” said  an employee of Adityapur-based small scale industry and a resident of Sakchi.
