With some fun frolic activities, physical exercise and in order to promote several green initiatives, Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) in association with Ranchi Traffic Police, will host series of vehicle-free events in the State capital, from June 21 on the occasion of International Yoga Day. A weekly two hour cycling event from 9 pm to 11 pm will unite the cyclists, fitness freaks and green enthusiasts in the state capital to promote clean and green city.
The event was recently approved by RMC and will be a weekly two hour cycling event organised in association with Ranchi Traffic police under the flagship programme of Raahgiri event. Cyclists can make rounds of the 10 km stretch from near Jaipal Singh Stadium to the Chief Justice’s residence on Kanke Road which has been demarcated for the purpose. With the combine endeavors of few NGOs working on road safety, this unique weekly event has been chalked out.
“Night cycle ride is an extension of Raahgiri and the concept of cycling event is taken from Delhi NCR, we are initiating this on experimental basis here. After looking at the success rate, we will further extent it to other itineraries,” said, Bidyanand Sharma Pankaj, Additional Town Commissioner.
“People will be encouraged to cycle on the stretch from Jaipal Singh Stadium via Radium Road, Morabadi ground to Chief Justice’s residence in Kanke Road.
All security measures have been drafted out and people are requested to actively participate in the programme. At present, RMC is having 40 bicycles and the numbers will be increased soon according to the requirement,” Pankaj pointed out.
Traffic DSP, Dilip Khalkho said that the motto is not just to encourage healthy lifestyle but also to make denizens feel safe during night hours beside promoting and campaigning for clean environment and of course managing traffic.
“We are working on the security plans and accordingly traffic police personnel will be deployed on the routes. However, heavy vehicles will not be permitted or will be stopped at the entry during the event looking at the safety of public,” added Khalkho.
Meanwhile, an initiative to disseminate real time traffic updates of Ranchi City through FM Channels has been taken. Now, denizens will get information on their favourite FM channels and will help public to choose or skip a route they desired to travel after listening to the traffic update on FM channels.
