Colleges increase cut-off for admission

Published on:

Gone are the days when only science courses had stratospheric cut-off percentages during admission. Now it's the turn of commerce courses. Colleges in the city have announced their cut-offs for various combinations and anything less than 60 per cent.

The rush for admission forms has been maximum at the Jamshedpur Women's College, Karim City College and Graduate School College for Women. The cut off in Jamshedpur Women's College and Graduate School College for Women have decided a higher cut off for some subjects. As compared to 45 or 50 per cent cut off for applying in honours courses, the Graduate School College for Women has decided a 70 per cent cut off for commerce and 60 per cent for arts and commerce. The forms here will be issued from June 10.

While colleges like Jamshedpur Co-operative College, lBSM College and ABM College have kept 45 per cent as a parameter to apply for honours courses, Jamshedpur Women's College have kept different eligibility criteria for different courses. Although science is preferred by many students, commerce too is not far as students have understood the scope of the subject now. As many students want to pursue MBA after graduation, commerce also is preferred by most of the students. Among Arts, English, Political Science and Economics remains the best.

Karim City College, another city-based premier college, has number of professional courses in store like Mass Communication and Video Production, Informational Technology, Computer Application etc.

"Yes we are receiving number of queries from students who are keen to take admissions in vocation courses. There is a common perception among students that conventional courses cannot land them a job immediately. This has also led to a rush in the vocational field," said a professor.

Jamshedpur Women's College offers about 11 vocational courses ranging including BSC (IT), BCA, and several add one course like Banking, Web Designing, etc. The best part of these courses is that students get Bachelor's degree after completion.
