Coalition partners not happy with CM's drought package

Monetary relief announced by Chief Minister Hemant Soren for drought-affected farmers of Jharkhand has not made the ruling coalition partners happy.

Just a couple of days after Soren came-up with a Rs 62 crore package to be equally distributed among 24 districts many of the legislators supporting the coalition have upped the ante. The MlAs are particularly unhappy in the situation when sowing of paddy has not crossed 25 per cent in the most parts of the State, which may prove detrimental to their political prospects.

"The latest rain has improved the situation a little bit but it is still not more than 25 per cent. It is drought more or less in our area. In this term the package is very less and insufficient to deal with the grave situation immerging," said Congress' MlA from Gandey Sarfaraz Ahmed. The Chief Minister after consultations with senior officials and assessing the data
