Yoga lovers of the city have a reason to smile. Eastern India’s first state-of-art Yoga Centre will be unveiled by Chief Minister Raghubar Das at East Jail Road on the occasion of International Yoga Day on Sunday. It is built in accordance to the Vastu-Shastra in order to maintain the peaceful ambience required for performing the traditional exercise form properly.
The entire building built at a cost of around Rs 3.5 crore at an area of 18,000 square feet is surrounded by a designed boundary wall. Tall Blackberry, Mango and Peepal trees managed by the Forest Department in this location are seen standing in front of the building.“The plan of setting up the centre is due to the constant efforts of Health Department Principal Secretary K Vidyasagar.
The location was identified long back but the construction was on halt for a year since February 2014 due to some objections from the Forest department. We started constructing the building from last February and are now in a position to hand over it to the Health department,” said Bablu Singh, the Director of Raj Constructions looking over the construction on behalf of the government.
Tiles are laid in and around the building to show a glossy look.  The one storey building has two lobbies equipped with colourful lights and four halls equipped with air-conditioners and fans. “We have made two halls for women and remaining two halls for men. Both are attached with toilets and changing rooms. People keen to perform asanas without fans or ACs can do it by opening the windows,” said Health department’s Executive Engineer Jodhan Munda. The compound is adjacent to the Birsa Smriti Park. Health Department may run it through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode in future.
