CM promises new Assembly building soon

Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday promised that Jharkhand will soon get its own Assembly building and its foundation will be laid by December end.

“Foundation stone for the Assembly will be laid by December end this year and I will try to get it completed at the earliest,” said the Chief Minister, while speaking at the 13th Foundation Day of the Assembly in Jharkhand. “Questions were often asked that the State does not have its own Assembly building even after 13 years of its existence,” he said, and added “We have less time to perform and everyone in the State has to fulfill his/her responsibility.”

The Jharkhand Assembly functions from lenin Hall, which used to be an immensely popular club during the good days of the HEC, set up with Soviet assistance. A plaque commemorating lenin’s birth anniversary still stands guard at the gate of the Assembly. The Chief Minister, however, was upset with the fact that that most of the MlAs, besides five ministers, including Geetashree Oraon, Mannan Mullick, Simon Marandi, Haji Hussain Ansari and Chandrashekhar Dubey skipped the function. Only around a dozen MlAs attended the Assembly’s birthday function.

“There must be a sense of respect towards the Assembly among the legislators or else value of politics and politicians among the people may get diminished,” he maintained. Hemant further added that there is no dearth of resources in the State; people only have to recognize our potential and make changes in our work processes. The government is making all efforts to work together for bringing the State forward on the path of development, he said.

“The working of government must be criticized by the Opposition, but should be done in a healthy way, without creating differences among each other,” he added. Governor Syed Ahmed, speaking at the occasion said that the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha should be a model for other State Assemblies and should function in such a way that everybody gets benefitted by it.

Borio MlA lobin Hembram along with other former Assembly Speakers, including C P Singh and Alamgir Alam was felicitated by the Governor. Hembrom was also given a cheque of Rs 51,000 which he donated to a blind girl, whom he recently got admitted at a blind school in Ranchi. Three other employees of Assembly were also felicitated by the Governor.
