Police get three-day remand of Ranjeet Singh Kohli

Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday ordered a CBI probe into the much talked about Tara Shahdeo case that had grabbed national attention after the ace shooter alleged torture by her husband Ranjeet Singh Kohli and his mother after she refused to change her religion. Shahdeo had repeatedly been questioning the ongoing investigation conducted by the state police apprehending that the police might be pressurized by some "high profile" persons who are also said to be involved in the case.

"Considering the seriousness of the matter, I too was of the opinion that a free and fair investigation must be done in the case and have no objection in referring the case to the CBI," said Soren. The CM had called on Shahdeo at her residence on Friday as he wanted to hear her grievances personally. Tara insisted on CBI enquiry in the case, Soren said.

Talking to the media persons at his residence late in the evening, the CM said that the state government will extend all facilities to Shahdeo to nurture and re-establish Tara's talent as a shooter.

"Tara, during the talks, expressed her desire to resume her shooting practice and I ensured her that the state government will get all help and support in this regard," he said.

Soren, however, avoided replying to the questions on the further course of action against some high profile administrative, police and judicial officers along with two of his ministers in the state government.

Earlier, Ranjeet Singh Kohli alias Raquibul Hassan was remanded to three-day police custody on Friday to thoroughly investigate the case of deceit, torture, religious conversion of the national shooter.

Ranchi police had prayed for the remand of seven days before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, but was granted only three-day custody for him. The police immediately took Kohli to some unknown place from Birsa Munda Central Jail.

Earlier in the day, SSP Prabhat Kumar and DSP Deepak Ambashtha went to her residence on Friday to record her statement regarding the case. "The SSP had come here to record my statement and said that the way I was giving statement before the media, it seemed I didn't trust the police," said Tara. The SSP said that they were doing their best and have taken Kohli on remand for further interrogation, she added.

Although the SSP assured her that she will get justice and Kohli will be punished for his misdeeds, she apprehended that the high profile people behind Kohli might try to influence their power and contacts to weaken the case and the facts unveiled by the SSP on Thursday itself proves it.

"After 24 hours of interrogation, the Ranchi police could not reveal a single fact which I did not say earlier to the media or the police. It appeared that the police was in the role of Kohli's spokesperson," she said.

Tara sought safety of all those girls who are still in Kohli's net and all those high profile people in the police, administration, government as well as judiciary,  providing power to him must be put behind bars so that no girl goes through the trauma which she had undergone in those thirty days.

"All those ministers, judges, CJMs, SDMs and other top officials who were supporting him must be booked who are trying at their level to weaken the case," she said.

Reacting to SSP's statement regarding Kohli's November plan that he wanted to expand his business in that particular month, she questioned what sort of business he was doing where they wanted 14-15 MlAs and 14 governors at their disposal so that they can make the country dance to their tunes.
