Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Monday visited a ward to motivate people, urging them to change their mindset and keep their respective localities clean on the pattern of other big cities.
Citing an example of Singapore and other metro cities, the CM said to the people of ward no. 18 (lower Bazar) that conducting sanitation drive is not merely the responsibility of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) and public must voluntarily come forward to address basic civic issues.
Taking up the issue of 'Swacchta', the CM interacted with the residents of ward no. 18 and instructed the public to adopt innovative measures to transform their wards from better to the best. Focusing on other agenda like traffic management, formation of five sub-committees in wards, Das, on the occasion, said it is upon each one of us to bring a change and achieve all sustainable goals.
He further added that it is the responsibility of local residents to set an example for others. "Around 80 per cent of diseases are caused due to dirt and litter. If we keep our wards clean, this can be avoided. Everyone should take a pledge to keep the city clean and green." The CM during the interaction gave the example of Aara-Keram village that has set a model in sanitation practices.
Das said that dependence on the Municipal Corporation and bureaucracy will not serve the purpose, as the cleanliness is the responsibility of all.
"It must be ensured that garbage is segregated and thrown in the dustbins only. Similarly, shopkeepers who don't maintain cleanliness will be given a notice. Stern action will be taken against those who, despite warnings, drop sand and ballast alongside roads," the CM said.
Also, taking up the issue of traffic management, the Chief Minister said that it is mandatory for each one of us to follow traffic rules. "A little discipline can save lives. Helmet and seat belt are obligatory. High Definition CCTV will be installed in the city to keep a tab on violators. So, if anyone violates traffic rule, challan for the same will be directly sent to their home," he further added.
The CM instructed the Ward Councillor to engage youths and make a list of BPl families as the government will train and provide employment to all those who need assistance. Similarly, the CM has ordered to make a list of the people who are yet to have toilets at home. He instructed to disburse widow pension by putting up camps and giving money to beneficiaries under different schemes on time.
Minister of Urban Development, C P Singh, Deputy Mayor Sanjiv Vijayvargiya, Additional Municipal Commissioner Divyanshu Jha, Ward Councillor Gulam Sarwar Rijvi were present on the occasion.
