Ranchi University (RU) is worried about the future of B.ed courses in Ranchi College, Ranchi Women’s College and Gumla College. The three Government colleges are unable to fulfill the required teaching norms.
According to Ranchi College Principal UC Mehta there are no permanent teaching staffs in the Government B.ed colleges of RU. “In such circumstances we cannot confirm the continuity of these courses,” he said.
“If B.ed course at Women’s College and our college is closed, other Government colleges will have to face the same closure,” added Mehta.
University’s Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Ramesh Kumar Pandey has called a meeting of Principals including Mehta, RMW Principal Manju Sinha and Gumla College Principal Shashi Bhushan for the solution over the matter on March 19.
“These three colleges have maintained a record in managing B.ed courses since long. We are not in favour of closing this course. In order to continue the courses for the next academic session, I have called the meeting of three Principals on priority basis,” VC told The Pioneer on Monday.
Pandey has planned to meet the Human Resources Development (HRD) Department officials personally after this meeting.
The VC seems to be serious on the affiliation of other private and government colleges as well. He along with his syndicate members comprising Pro-VC M Raziuddin, Registrar Amar Kumar Choudhary and Dean of Student’s Welfare Satish Chandra Gupta approved the further affiliation of 23 B.ed colleges, Silli College and Nilay Engineering College today.
Asked the reason, for the urgent meeting, he said, “As per the guidelines of Supreme Court, we have to submit the details of affiliation to the state government by March 20. The meeting was related to this submission. We are now in a position to submit the details.”
VC is keen to beautify the campus of the university departments and colleges. He has started the initiative from his office where dozens of flower and decorative plant pots have been kept.
