Clogged drains, tattered mosquito nets at RIMS Ward

Cleanliness in RIMS premises seems to be a distant dream. The condition is such that even dengue ward is not free from mosquitoes and the water-logging behind the dengue ward often creates problems for every individual.

The situation becomes worse, especially when it rains. Hospital basement has clogged drains which have become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. In the past six months the hospital has admitted 40 dengue patients. The situation is such that even doctors and nurses are not secure from the disease.  In few cases even the basic arrangement are being done by the family members of patients.

“We have to arrange the mosquito net by ourselves as the mosquito net provided by the hospital was in a tattered condition. The condition becomes shoddier in night, this is basically due to the water logging problem,” said a patient, Rajendra Kerketta who has come from Hazaribagh for treatment. Similarly, another patient Rajeshwar Choudhary said that even doctors deputed in the service fear to visit the ward. “In case of emergency we have to rush to the chamber and call the doctor,” he said.

“We have adopted all precautions and are trying to accommodate and treat each and every patient who is diagnosed with the disease. Clogged drain behind the ward will be cleaned soon. We have also put up signboards and have issued guideline for the vulnerable patients,” informed RIMS Director, B l Sherwal.

When contacted the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) know about their efforts to maintain proper hygiene and cleanliness in the city, Public Relation Officer Naresh Kumar Sinha said, “Regular fogging is being done in different wards. Presently we have 11 machines and all them is being utilised for the purpose. In the effort Ranchi lake is also being cleaned up.”
