The indefinite adjournment of classes at Central University of Jharkhand has been partially withdrawn and for a relief to 600 students in first semester of undergraduate courses, classes would resume from Monday. Varsity management is also working to improve the state of hostel facility, mess services and basic amenities, so that the institution returns to its complete normalcy again.
“The priority of our newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Nand Kumar Yadav Indu, is to fix the flaws in mess, water, electricity and hygiene services. For this, several committees have been formed with HODs and a dean as their chairpersons. They have submitted their reports regarding the work that needs to be done in this fields and the required budget,” said CUJ CCO Rahul Chaturvedi.
The mess committee is headed by Saurabh, Head of Centre for Tribal Folklore, language and literature, the electrical committee chaired by Head of Centre for International Relations Satish Kumar, HP Singh of Centre for Water Engineering Management is presiding over the water committee and Dev Vrat Singh of Centre for Mass Communication will be overseeing the hygiene committee.
As of now, each of the committee has been granted funds amounting to Rs 1 lakh for attending to issues with immediate effect. “The documentation and approvals required for releasing the funds are under process and they will be made available to the committees soon,” informed varsity sources.
The quality of mess services, which set the wheels in motion for student agitations that later resulted in classed being adjourned sine die, is at the forefront of agendas being focussed upon by the academy administration.
“If all goes well, we will begin mess services from next week. We have invited interested parties for managing the mess facility for hostels within the campus on Tuesday. As far as maintain clean and hygienic conditions in messes is concerned, it will be the daily responsibility of the mess contractors. We will also be appointing some students to keep watch on the cleanliness in the messes,” stated mess committee chairperson Saurabh.
The hostels are being cleared of any faults before calling back the students for attending classes. “The hostels are being renovated and will be available for hostellers from August 15. Work will gather steam in a day or two. Deep-boring has been done already against the water problems. As soon as the renovation work is complete, the hotel will be open for students,” said Shamsher Alam, Warden of CUJ Boys’ Hostels. The first semester students have not been allotted rooms in hostels yet, so it was decided to call them back first. “As soon as the hostel and mess facilities are up and running, the sine die will be revoked completely,” the CUJ CCO said.
A disciplinary committee has also been formed to ensure healthy student-teacher relationship in the university and check any disciplinary violations in future, sources said.
