With the onset of monsoon, Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is gearing up for a massive cleanliness drive in all the wards and is adopting measures to tackle the menace of diseases that generally leaps in during the season. Considering the cleanliness process phase wise and to manage the wards, RMC has formed a team that will monitor the cleanliness process during the season.

“The team has been formed and the work has already been initiated in all the 55 wards under the supervision of officials in charge. As per the area, labourers have been deployed. The state capital is divided into four zones for the purpose and as many as 13 supervisors have been given the charge. At present, 120 vehicles are there with the civic body and ward councillors have been asked to keep a tab of cleanliness work in their respective wards,” said, Medical Officer of Health, Dr. AK Manjhi.

Notably, construction of new drains, which should have been completed before the monsoon to ease water logging has been lingering. Problems like clogged drainage including cleaning major water bodies of the city are another major challenge for the civic body during the monsoon season. “We had to struggle to deal with waterlogging, as the colony lacks proper drainage. The problem increases specially during the monsoon season,” said, a resident of Harmu colony, Rita Das.

On the other hand, all the ward councillors have been instructed to keep track of the cleanliness process. “We have received the instructions from RMC and the work will soon start in my ward. We have asked the people to cooperate and also keep informing about the progress,” added, a Ward Councilor.

Meanwhile, approximately 20 ponds have been selected for beautification work and will be completed in the stimulated time. “The beautification of the ponds will include de-silting, erecting a boundary wall around the pond, making a pathway, installing benches, and landscaping. And most importantly, it will be cleaned and maintained regularly,” Deputy Mayor, Sanjiv Vijaywargia, pointed out.
