As the city is soaked in festivities, the district administration is gearing up to ensure that the festival of light ends on even brighter note and without any trouble souring the celebrations. The administration has taken a slew of measures to prevent any untoward incident.
Diwali usually calls for exercising utmost caution as fire and fireworks characterize the festival. Fire is used to lighten lamps and dissipate darkness from every corner of the house and metaphorically also said to possess qualities that end the spell of darkness in people’s life. But flirting with fire could have devastating consequences which could only be dealt with by institutional mechanisms like fire fighting services. The district police while recognizing the importance of the service in mitigating large scale devastations decided to press the firefighting services differently. The judicious use of the service will see stationing fire tenders at different locations in the city unlike previous years when all vehicles were stationed at the depot.
“There has been a change of plan from last year. Fire tenders will be stationed at different locations in the city for quick reaction,” said SSP Ranchi Prabhat Kumar.
As per the plan the district police has asked fire-fighting vehicles to remain stationed at Firyalal, Doranda, Police Control Room in Radium Road and Audrey House near lPN Sahdeo Chowk. Deployment would be sufficient enough to deal with law and order situations.
“This is the festival which people usually celebrate at their houses so law and order is not a major issue. Yet we have asked all police stations to remain alert and respond to the situation on time,” said City SP Anoop Birtharay.
The potentially life threatening activities like bursting crackers carelessly and getting caught in fire needs prompt medical services to mitigate the threat. The premier medical institution of Jharkhand, Rajendra Institute of Medical Institution has kept emergency services on alert besides making arrangement of medicines needed in case burn injuries which is quite a possibility during the festival. Ambulances operated by RIMS will be in constant touch with the control room at the government owned medical institution to provide timely relief to people.
“We are fully prepared to respond to any casualty. We have stocked up all medicines needed for victims of accident,” said Director RIMS, SK Chaudhary. Besides RIMS, Sadar Hospital and officials of privately owned hospitals have also conveyed preparedness for Diwali.
Meanwhile, the district administration on Wednesday released a list of officials to be deployed during Chhath. As per the security arrangement made by district administration, there will be zonal deployment, static deployment around chhath ghats besides arranging firefighting services, medical facilities, lighting arrangements near chhath ghats. Traffic will be restricted keeping in view the flood of devotees turning up on ghats to revere Sun God.
