City schools welcome students with caution

Several schools in the City welcomed students of class X and XII after a hiatus of over nine months with numerous safety measures in place. While some schools opened doors on Monday some others will start classes in the coming days after proper preparations.

School authorities claim that even though the government order to reopen schools was issued on December 18, parents are still apprehensive to send their children for attending physical classes.

“Students of class X and XII are doing the practical classes and also solving some practice papers for board examinations. The students are being informed about the various changes that have been made in the syllabus and also the pattern of the question paper. The attendance for practical classes is much better as compared to that of regular classes. This is also because the course has been completed in the online classes,” said Ram Singh, Principal Delhi Public School.

DPS resumed classes on January 4 after the winter break. In order to maintain social distancing in a classroom, students from each section have been further divided into two sections.

Guru Nanak School also resumed classes from January 4. “Around 30 per cent of students have attended school on the first two days. Students of class X and XII are being called on alternate days for practical classes as well as for clearing their doubts. No student is being allowed to enter the school premises without the consent of the parents. Hand sanitisers have been placed outside all classrooms and toilets. Thermal screening is also being done at the gate. The school also has a tie up with Guru Nanak Hospital to deal with any emergency,” said the Principal Manohar Lal.

Jawahar Vidya Mandir Shyamali is scheduled to reopen from January 6 for class XII while for class X students classes are due to being from January 15.

“Out of 15 sections in class XII students from three sections only are being called at a time. Till now 50 percent consent has been received from the parents so about 70- 80 students will be attending classes on the first day. The students are only being called for practical classes. Students from Humanities and Commerce streams will be joining from January 11. For class X also only two out of seven sections will be called to school at a time. No student will be allowed to enter the school without the consent of parents,” informed the Principal Samarjit Jana.
