With over 3,500 stray dogs vaccinated during an intensive dog vaccination drive during November 21-December 1, the city roads are much safer from rabies.
The drive was a combined effort of Dogs Trust-sponsored Mission Rabies, HOPE and Animal Trust and MSD Animal Health. International Veterinary Projects Manager-Mission Rabies Dr Jordana Burdon Bailey, who led the teams during the two week drive, said that the team didn’t pick up a single rabid dog in Ranchi City this year-a clear sign that the strategy worked. Mission Rabies Ranchi Project Manager Praveen Ohal urged the public to stay vigilant. Ironically, Jharkhand lost as many as 47 lives in year 2014 to this 100 per cent vaccine-preventable disease.
