The much-needed drinking water tower project that received the State Cabinet’s nod a while ago after getting preliminary clearance from different departments is awaiting for No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the land owners for taking up the civil construction work at the selected places.
According to Ranchi DC, Manoj Kumar, instead of acquiring lands for the construction purpose which is considered to be a tedious process, the district administration is transferring the land assets from the owners. “Since in this project, land acquisition is not being done, several formalities for transferring the lands have been completed for the first phase. At present, we are waiting for the NOC from the land owners,” said Kumar.
Similarly, Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) officials said once the allotment of land issue gets cleared they will immediately initiate the work as the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of 14 water tanks at the selected spots has been prepared by Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company (JUIDCO).
The blueprint for the plan that involves a hefty sum of Rs. 148 crore has been tabled recently with the detailed action plan. According to the plan, water will be supplied from Rukka Dam to the 14 drinking water towers through pipelines. Under the proposal of Ranchi Urban water supply project-phase 1 scheme, the work has been undertaken by the Department of Urban Development.
Under the central government scheme, Amrut Yojana, that emphasizes to establish infrastructure with robust sewage and water supply networks for urban makeover, the pipeline would be stretched across 344 kms. The designated places where the 14 water tanks would be set up are Ratu Road, Madhukam, Patel Park, Shaheed Chowk, harmu Road, kishore Ganj, New Police line, ITI Bus stand, Itki Road etc. The proposal suggests that the pipeline would cover areas like Ring Road, Tupudana, Jhiri.
More than 10 wards are likely to get the benefit out of this plan that faces acute water shortage in summer season. Some of the wards that will be benefitted from this plan are ward number 1 and 2, wards from 22 to 26 and wards from 29 to 37. While in the second phase, around 20 reservoirs will be constructed at different places. According to the officials, the second phase construction task is also likely to start sometime soon.
