The Union Budget 2019-20, proposed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman on Friday, received a thumbs-up from residents in Jharkhand. Lawyers, teachers, students and homemakers lauded the Budget, calling it beneficial for all sections of the society.
Shubham Gautam, an advocate practising in Ranchi High Court said, “Increase in minimum public shareholding from 25 percent to 35 percent is a welcome change. Over and above injection of growth capital in banks by Rs 70,000 crore will turn out to be a much needed support. Study in India scheme seems to be a good step, but I am not sure how it will shape up”. He, however, added that the education sector requires a lot of infrastructural development.
Homemaker, Kalpana Gurung, is of the opinion that the Budget has given a fillip to women empowerment. “Women from all walks of life can avail exclusive facilities provided by the union Budget. ‘Naari tu Narayani’ is a committee formed in order to ensure optimal allocation of resources for the welfare of women is the mainstay,” she said.
“The Budget gives a new vision to boost start-up drives for the unemployed youth,” said a B.TECH student of BIT Mesra, Anurag Kumar Pun.
Assistant professor, department of English at Amity University Sylee Roy said,“I strongly support the ‘Naari tu Narayani’ initiative which aims at empowering women at all stages. Also, it is an important step that the government plans on enhancing the skill sets of individuals with the help of language training and artificial intelligence to make them employable.”
As a woman, Roy feels proud when she sees a “qualified, confident and competent” Finance Minister speak in the house.
Ravi Bhatt, chairman of petroleum committee, Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce & Industries said, “After independence this is the first time when a female Finance Minister introduced the bill wrapped in red cloth rather than carrying it in a briefcase. Officials of every ministry were involved in bringing out the union budget. Overall the budget seems to benefit all sections specially the rural class.”
