The City police have decided to crack the whip on those indulging in obscene acts in public places. Several girls and boys were taken into custody during a drive at Jubilee Park today for indecent behavior at the park. The youths were warned and were released later on.

Concerned over the rising cases of abuse the drive was launched to keep a check on incidents of rape, murder or kidnapping of young girls. "Blamed it on the influence of western culture but the people were annoyed with such activities. Their public display of love has turned as discomfort for others.

Moreover with rising cases of assault on woman on rise we need to keep vigil on youths. We have decided to launch a sustained drive against such nuisance,” noted a police official.

City SP Karthik S said that the police have launched a drive to the check the menace. There are also reports of anti-social elements capturing the lovers in their mobile cameras and blackmailing them later on.

“We have been receiving complains about girls being ditched or blackmailed by their lovers after they went on a date. We want to protect such girls and have launched the drive in view of such activities,” noted the police officer. He went on to add that police constable will be deployed at different public places to keep a vigil on such activities. Karthik advised the youths not to indulge in obscenity in public places and warned them that police personnel have been deputed at all public places to keep a watch on their movements.

“Eve-teasing cases have witnessed an increase at the picnic spots; so much so that the district women cell of the police has planned to work in coordination with the respective local police stations to prevent incidents of eve-teasing in the picnic spots,” said an official of the district women’s cell.

The policemen in plain clothes, with baton and torch will move around in the parks to guard the girls. This police patrolling will be increased at weekends at the park areas.
