Stray animals, especially cows and buffaloes, are proving to be a huge traffic problem in all the prominent areas of the city. The cattle liberally roam on the roads, platforms and cause obstacles in the traffic movement.

It is a common sight to see stray animals loitering around and even occupying the middle of the road. This disrupts traffic flow and often leads to jams. Many a times, cattle locks horns on the roads and pose threat to the passersby. The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) seems to have paid no heed to the nuisance.

In the city most of the areas does not have fencing in the road sides due to which accidents takes place but even if there is fencing it fails to stop the gathering of stray cattle.

“Whenever Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) gets to know any special case about stray animals, action is taken from our side and we fine for it to the cattle owners. Between every two months RMC keeps drive session for two days in the city,” Said Shailendra lal Depute CEO Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC).

“Recently, a stray cow had knocked down women in Naga Baba Khatal Sabzi mandi when she was buying vegetables. In a similar incident, a 25 years old man received injuries when a cow knocked him down. Two cows recently locked horns at nearby sabzi mandi. Such sights have become common. Thus, there is a need to flush out stray animals from the public places,” a housewife Indira singh.

Vipul Satyam a local resident said, “Stray cattle like cows, bulls, buffaloes barricade the movement of passengers on platforms and also make the place dirty. At times, bulls lock horns has become very risky.”

Another commuter Rajeev Gupta said, “The RMC must ensure that stray cattle removed from the city roads as well as platforms.”
