The popular television based game show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) currently in its 12th season will get its first ‘crorepati’ on Wednesday. Nazia Nasim (39), a resident of Doranda, Ranchi will be seen sitting on the Hot Seat before the host Amitabh Bachchan on November 10 and November 11 and winning Rs 1 croroe.
Talking about her experience on being a part of the reality show, Nazia feels that it has been a life changing event, one that she had only dreamt of. “It was absolutely overwhelming. I have always imagined seeing Mr Bachchan in a crowd of 10,000 odd people, where I too get a glimpse of him from a distance. Sitting across him on national television is not a small thing that happens with a small town girl. I feel I was so lucky to talk to him about the deepest matters close to my heart. Hearing him say ‘I am so proud of you Nazia’ is something, which continues to give me goosebumps,” said a beaming Nazia.
A proponent of equal rights for women and girls, Nazia hopes that this experience will change lives and inspire people to give their daughters equal opportunities which they rightly deserve.
“It has made me realize that this is possible for a small town girl from a conservative locality but born to liberal parents. I hope more parents will be able to break free from the societal pressure and give their girls the right exposure. Being a part of KBC, has always been my mother’s dream. It is not just a game show but an opportunity to have a conversation with a super star for middle class families. When the first season was playing it was like reliving the days of Ramayan and Mahabharat with no one to be seen on the streets,” added Nazia.
With the 12th season being aired, Nazia has tried her luck in about eight to ten of them and feels that 2020 is her year as it has worked in her favour.
“After three- four months required for the application process, the video call received on August 24 when they announced that I had been selected was nothing short of a magical moment. KBC is a show that tests your knowledge which you have gained through the years. It was like a Slumdog Millionaire moment where just like the movie, I too joined the dots relating to real life experiences,” added Nazia.
Born and brought up in Ranchi, Nazia completed her schooling from JVM Shyamali and graduation in B.Sc Honours in Zoology from St Xavier’s College. A post graduate in advertising and public relations from Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi, Nazia is working with Royal Enfield as a Group Manager in Internal Communication. She is presently settled in Delhi with her husband Mohammed Shakil who runs an advertising agency and has a 10- year old son named Danyaal.
“All through school and college, I have been very active in extracurricular activities. It was the exposure at IIMC has really helped in becoming what I am. I want to raise my son who respects and treats women around him as an equal and not with the thought of someone who is born to take care of him,” she added.
With the winning amount Nazia intends to invest a part of it in the medical needs of both sets of parents. A
keen soccer player, she also plans to enroll her son for international level training and has kept a certain amount for charity as well.
