Eight teams categorised in seven sectors, participated in 2nd All India Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Inter-sector Judo championship – 2015 that began today at Khelgaon. Participants selected in the inter-sector Judo tournament will represent the para military force (CISF) in the upcoming All India Police Games which will be held in December 2015 in Haryana.
Total 24 participants from seven sectors of CISF including Airport and Training sector represented their respective sectors in different weight categories. Among the players present from all over India, 11 players have represented CISF at national level competitions.
Citing details about the tournament and about his passion for Judo, Vikendra Singh Sub- Inspector in CISF from Haryana said, “I am representing my para military force in different competitions at both national and international events. Since 2008, I am associated with the game. I have bagged four gold medals in all India competition. I also got opportunity to represent India in commonwealth games held in Scotland. However, as a sports person I feel that enough exposure is not being given to this game in comparison with other sports. We as a sports person need much more support from government side.”
Similarly, people associated with the game feels that federation need to put much effort in order to enhance the sports. “Every year we organize so many events but still we are lagging far behind many sports. The league system has changed few sports in India and boosted it popularity. lack of awareness regarding this particular sport also creates problems. The result is such that in specific sports we have people from specific regions only. This kind of power game is dominated by only by the north Indian,” said, Coach Narendra Singh.
The event was inaugurated by Dadan Choubey, Executive Director of Sports Authority of Jharkhand. During the inaugural ceremony, chief guest emphasized and appreciated the contribution of CISF in national security and exhorted the players to contribute in similar manner in the field of sports too.
The two days events will continue till November 14 at Khelgaon, Hotwar. Judo competition is organised in different weight categories which includes 60 kg, 66 kg, 73 kg, 90 kg and 100 kg.
