The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Jharkhand Safety Panel, launched project SARTHI on Thursday at Jamshedpur to handhold industries on better safety management practices and transform them into a better and safer workplace.

Speaking about the project Convener, CII Jharkhand Safety Panel and Head-Safety, Tata Motors Limited Bipin Sharan emphasized that through structured safety management system in place with strong leadership commitment the cultural transformation can ensure sustenance on zero incidents in any organization.

Hence, we need to ensure that a robust Safety Management System is properly implemented in organizations to provide safe working conditions for all its employees, he added.

In India, people are experiencing the industrial progress. Such industrial growth will be accompanied by serious environment, health and safety issues. These issues can only be tackled through improved awareness and implementation of good practices. Cleaner technology, behavioural and process safety are probably the answers to curb the adverse impact of industrialization. Synchronization of human, machinery and the workplace environment play a crucial role in the sustenance of the organization. Machinery accidents do happen in spite of adopting high tech processes because of behavioral issues. Hence, the attitude towards safety for both the employees and the top management is of utmost importance. The Enhanced Risk Perception competence and Adequate Mitigation measures can bring down the risks to ALARP (As Low as Reasonably Practicable).

To spread safety awareness and develop safety competency among the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises operating in the Adityapur Industrial region, CII Jharkhand launched Project SARTHI as a step towards enhancing safety consciousness of industries.

“A special task force, consisting of a panel of safety experts from various large companies who have experience and expertise in the area of industrial safety has been formed. The identified panelists would be assigned to one company for a period of six months for handholding the company’s team to upgrade their safety management system. The panelists would conduct safety assessments, promote safety awareness, provide safety training and improve the safety culture in the respective company”, said Sharan.
