Choudhary completes tenure as JPSC chairman

Former IPS officer Amitabh Choudhary on Tuesday completed his tenure as Chairman of Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC). As per appointment rules, the appointment of JPSC chairman is for a period of three years or at the upto the age of 62. On Wednesday Choudhary attained the age of 62. On Tuesday the staff and officials of JPSC gave him a farewell.  A veteran cricket administrator and ex-IPS, Choudhary held the office for 20 months.

Choudhary's tenure as JPSC chairman was marked with controversy as opposition BJP had targeted Choudhary over alleged discrepancies in conducting the 7th Jharkhand Public Services Commission (JPSC) Civil Services Examination. The BJP had even raised the issues in the house.

The 7th JPSC examination, PT, conducted in September 2021, results of which were declared on November 1, was marred by controversies.

Choudhary prior to holding the post of JPSC chairman was president of Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA). In 2019 JSCA polls, Choudhary, who was then acting BCCI secretary, couldn’t contest due to the cooling off period clause enforced by the Supreme Court in the wake of Lodha committee recommendations to improve the affairs of BCCI. Thereafter, new office bearers led by former India Captain Sourav Ganguly filled the BCCI administrator’s post too, leaving Choudhary unoccupied.

Meanwhile, in another development, the issue of paper leak of JSSC Junior Engineer (JSSC JE) exam conducted once in 8 years has become an issue. The examination was held on Sunday, July 3, 2022. But before that the paper was leaked. BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo has demanded an inquiry into this. At the same time, many students are demanding the cancellation of the exam.

Candidates allege that there were many such students in the center who had filled only 3 to 5 questions in the OMR Sheet in two hours. Students say that such a case has come from many centers. Candidates say that all seats have been sold, students from poor families only work hard and people with money buy seats. So how do they get a job?
