Chinese battery fans are ruling the markets this summer replacing the Indian tradition hand fans which has adversely affected the production and sale of small scale cottage industries of Jharkhand.
According to vendors the sale of traditional hand fans have dropped down from 150 to 60 in numbers in the past two years.
This has almost ruined the small scale cottage industries while on the other hand the sale of these Chinese battery fans has picked up pace in its sales graph even people from small segments of society are opting to purchase Chinese battery fans over Indian hand fans by paying four times higher price than that of the traditional fans.
Traditional hand fans seller near Mahabir Chowk in Ranchi, Girdhari Kumar said, “ People are becoming more gadget savvy so they are choosing Chinese battery fans over Indian hand fans though the price of it is much cheaper but the sale is on decline from past few years as the utility of these hand fans are restricted only for religious purposes. On Chhath puja the sale of these hand fans increases little but income out of it still remains very low.”
He further added that he had to strive hard to earn his daily bread as this was his ancestral business and he could not opt for another business because his expertise lies in this field only.
The Daily market of Ranchi is doomed with varieties of Chinese battery fans ranging from Rs100 to Rs650 and above with the onset of summer the sale of these Chinese battery fans have increased.
Raghunath Singh, a shopkeeper at daily market, said, “From the past two years these Chinese battery fans are leading in the market every year it shows an increasing sale graph. Till date no complains have come to us regarding these battery fans working”.
Sapna Jain,a customer said, “ I have seen this battery fan in one of my friend’s house and found it portable and also felt it provides good cooling. So I have come to purchase this battery fans as with a finger press it gives good cooling effect moreover its battery backup is also good it can work for 2 hrs at a stretch properly”
