Child right protection suffers with lack of awareness

To sensitise district administration as well as the NGOs working for the welfare of adolescents — about the provisions of law available for the victimised children — the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) organised a workshop here.

SSP Bhimsen Tutti said, “To address the grievance of the adolescents, each district police station has a teenage cop. Ironically, majority of the population are not aware of it as a result of which many cases remain unreported.”

He added that not only general public but many officials of the administration too are not aware of the provisions. As a result, sometimes the victims get misguided by the administration too. To curb these incidents, it is essential to generate awareness.

Following in his footsteps, SCPCR chairperson Rooplakshmi Munda said, “The need of the hour is to collectively make an effort to infuse awareness among the people and leave no stone unturned in providing a secure future for the children.”

SCPCR members have decided to organise a campaign for the street children named State to School on March 5. The basic objective ofthis campaign will be to identify the street children and make efforts to enroll them in some schools to provide a secure future.

As many as 100 officials from across the State participated in the workshop.
