Chief Secretary RS Sharma on Monday sought revised estimate of the Ranchi water supply project under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM ) for approval by the Cabinet. Sharma sought this at a meeting held with officials of the Drinking Water and Sanitation department held at the Project Building.

In the meeting Secretary of the Urban Development Department AK Singh informed that the contractor who was earlier hired for the project had been blacklisted and so the work had been withdrawn from the contractor. Singh however said that after a revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared, the project cost had exceeded the

earlier estimates and urged the State Government for appropriate funding.

At the meeting, the Chief Secretary said that it was essential that projects were planned in such a manner that they optimised the life-cycle cost of the project.

Chief Secretary focusing on the integral development of water supply of Ranchi city, said that safe and reliable water supply contributed in achieving sustainable access to drinking water for millions of people. This is the key factor for strengthening the public health and development.

Additional Chief Secretary, Drinking Water & Sanitation Department, Sudhir Prasad, Special Secretary, Finance Department AP Singh, along with other officials were present at the meeting.
