Adding another name to the seemingly endless list of sexual assault victims, a 19-year-old married tribal girl has fallen prey at Chatra. The girl was allegedly gang-raped in the wee hours of Saturday by two men.

According the Chatra Superintendent of Police Arun Birthery, the victim had gone to participate in the Ramnavmi procession in town on Friday, with a male relative. On the way back, around 3 am, she was abducted by Danish and Muktzeer, taken to a secluded location and sexually assaulted.

“The girl and her uncle said she was gang-raped by Danish and Muktzeer, against whom we have registered a case. The girl has identified the duo. They are both in jail,” said the SP.

The girl was sent to Sadar Hospital but discharged soon. “She had not sustained major injuries. Though we have not got medical reports, we are acting fully on the presumption that the girl has spoken the truth. The reports will be available in three to four days,” said Birthery. The victim is safe with her parents now.

The accused are both 23-24 years old and belong to poor families. While one is studying and stays in Chatra town, the other runs a ration shop. The girl is also from a poor family and married to a farmer.

On Sunday, BJP activists put up a blockade on main roads of Chatra from the morning, demanding stringent action against the culprits. Hundreds of party activists squatted at the busy Kesari Chowk, disrupting traffic.
