Negligence especially in cases related to crime against women will not be tolerated. The government will punish police officers if they will not dispose such type of cases within time,” Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has said during his Ranchi visit on Monday.

On Tuesday, his statement was on the front pages of newspapers and in Hazaribagh court premises it was in talks that whether the Jharkhand Police has heard this statement or not because just a few hours are left for submitting chargesheet in the brutal gang rape case which occurred at Hazaribagh in the last week of August this year.

On August 26, 2013 in broad daylight a student of intermediate was abducted from the road and was taken into a bungalow in front of her house. She was gang raped there and on 28th when she was recovered case no. 27/13 was registered at Women’s Police Station, Hazaribagh.

The denizens of Hazaribagh came out on streets against this brutal crime against women and political parties too joined them. Police started investigation and nabbed main accused Dhanu Kumar son of Inspector Arjun Ram, Ritesh son of IRB Jawan Umesh Singh, Sonu Kumar and Anurag Basu. All four accused are behind the bars nowadays.

The advocates who were talking about this case said that if within 90 days the chargesheet is not submitted the accused will get bail and in this case it seems that investigating officer is trying to give benefit of this rule to the accused as two of them belong to policemen family.

The parents and relatives of victim are also aware of this fact and now they have almost lost the hope of submission of charge sheet in time. They said that it will be more difficult for us to continue our fight as all four are brutal and have previous criminal history too.

When contacted the investigating officer Inspector AS Samshi said that he is giving finishing touch to the chargesheet and very soon it will be submitted in the court. When he was asked specifically about 90 days’ timeframe he said: “I am trying to submit the charge sheet within time.”
