Chargesheet has been filed by police in Rupa Tirkey death case, where on the basis of the statements of the witnesses, telephonic conversations between the accused Shiv Kumar Kanojia and Late Roopa Tirkey and others alongwith technical and circumstantial evidences, charges have been framed under Section-306 IPC, according to a press communique issued by Sahebganj Police.
Sub Inspector Roopa Tirkey, in-charge of Women’s Police Station, had committed suicide by hanging herself with a rope in her official residence on May 03, 2021. In this context, a UD Case was registered at Borio (Jirwabari) police station of the district.
The case was highly politicised as the family members of the deceased SI had alleged foul play and had stated that it was not a suicide but a murder. However, police investigation in the case made it clear that it was a suicide.
As per the Sahebganj police, the cause of death of Roopa Tirkey was given as Asphyxia due to hanging, which made it clear that Late Roopa Tirkey was not murdered but it was a case of suicide.
According to highly placed sources in the police department, it was found that the deceased Roopa Tirkey had close relations with the accused Shiv Kumar Kanojia, who was unwilling to marry the deceased due to caste issues and lack of family acceptance. Sources revealed that Kanojia used to misbehave and abuse the deceased over the phone breaking her emotionally.
