The Commissioner-level probe ordered by top officials of the State Government into the Chanho trapping incident appears to be a long-drawn process the as the South Chotanagpur Commissioner KK Khandelwal is yet to receive any communiqué to formally initiate a probe in this regard from the CS office.
Sources in the Commissioner’s office revealed that, no any letter has been received so far in this regard till Thursday evening. Taking a strong note over the issue, Chief Secretary Rajiv Gauba had immediately ordered a thorough probe to be done by Commissioner after forming a team involving other officials.
A team of Vigilance Bureau, which had gone to trap BDO Praveen Kumar in a graft case after a formal complaint was lodge against him, was kept hostage for over four hours by the villagers on Tuesday.
Incidentally, the vigilance Bureau has lodged an FIR against BDO Praveen Kumar and others charging them of creating hindrance in the government work.
“Yes a named FIR has also been lodged by the Vigilance Bureau against 15 persons including BDO Praveen Kumar besides 150 other unknown persons,” said Vigilance DSP BB Tirkey. All those who opposed the move of Vigilance Bureau and those who were present there to support them have been booked, said Tirkey.
Officer in Charge of Chanho Police Station asserted that the named persons have been booked for creating huddles in government work while the unknown persons have been booked for illegal gathering at the place.
The BDO however, said that he was assured by the Magistrate who was holding the talks with the Chief Secretary that no action will be taken until the probe is completed by the Commissioner.
IG Vigilance Murari lal Meena on the other hand, called lodging FIR in such cases a natural reaction if any hindrance is created during their work.
“lodging FIR is a separate thing......we are not stopping anyone else to do his or her work ...we are just doing our job...if any hindrance is created in between our work...... it will have a natural reaction and FIR will be lodged against the person..,” said IG Vigilance Ml Meena. It has nothing to do with the ongoing probe by anyone else, he added.
Over 500 villagers even kept the vigilance team captive for over four hours for trapping the BDO who let them go only after the BDO was repositioned on his chair with dignity. After intense pressure created by the villagers the vigilance team called Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar. Kumar immediately talked to Chief Secretary Rajiv Gauba making him aware about the situation following which a probe by a team of officials headed by Khandelwal was ordered by the CS.
