The Congress has expressed concern over attempts being made by the Jharkhand Government to legally acquire lands of tribal and indigenous people in the State.
Talking to mediapersons, National spokesperson and former Jamshedpur MP A Kumar said that all the Acts enacted to protect land rights of tribals, are clearly being violated by the Government.
“Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee seeks answer from Chief Minister Raghubar Das that why he needs such a huge land bank in spite of the fact that no any industry has come to this state over these years,” said Kumar. “It appears that he wanted to distribute these lands among his corporate friends who helped them during elections,” he said.
“This Government is not only anti-tribal, but it is also anti-middle class and anti-Moolwasi,” he said. “The only agenda of the Government is to make thousands of acres of land available to corporate houses which will be gradually sold out to them at a throw away price,” Kumar added.
He further said that the way Raghubar Das Government has been trying to legally acquire the land of the tribals and the Moolwasis, it raises serious doubts over intentions of the Government.
“They have been trying to acquire the land of the poor tribals even by keeping the laws of the land for the protection of tribal rights at stake,” said the Congress spokesperson. The way this Government is trying to make corrections in the CNT and SPT Acts, brought for the protection of tribal land rights, is really a matter of concern, he said.
