The chancellor of the State universities Ramesh Bais today setting a rare example of simplicity reached Nilamber Pitamber University’s second convocation as chief guest, by road a journey of 170 kms one side with a little stop over at the circuit house Latehar on way to Daltonganj.
The chancellor urged the students to excel in their field of education and asked them to be innovative. He alluded to Nelson Mandela and Swami Vivekanand and exhorted the students to strive for higher education.
As many as 130 toppers, 2 best graduates and 21 PhD scholars had their bright day today in the convocation. Remarkably 66 per cent of the gold medal grabbers are girls, an achievement, which the chancellor Ramesh Bais appreciated much.
Local police had a tip off about some students creating scenes and so hours before the start of the convocation around 7 student leaders were picked up and taken down to near and too far off police stations, only to be let off after the departure of the VVIP.
Pro vice chancellor Dr Deep Narayan Yadav had worked too hard to strike a balance of understanding between the university and various student bodies for the smooth conduct of the convocation as words doing the rounds here were that students were desperate enough to create chaos in the convocation.
Sources said the pro vice chancellor Dr Yadav held parleys with them in the JS College, Daltonganj and succeeded in defusing many of their angst but despite this olive branch of the university, police had to segregate around 7 students’ leaders for peace and harmony in the convocation.
VC Dr Ram Lakhan Singh said everything from 28,000 enrolments on an average in one academic session, fleet of new degree colleges coming up, joining of 36 new teachers, proposal for starting new courses like environmental science, board of studies etc without making even a whiff of shortcomings that this university is gripped with.
All said the newly taken over multi crore building of the university from the Jharkhand State Building Construction Corporation Ltd christened as Kautaliya Bhavan could not be inaugurated by the chancellor today when the convocation venue was barely within minutes approach.
Sources said it is the Jharkhand State Building Construction Corporation Ltd which has seriously embarrassed this university leading to the deferment of the inauguration of the Kautaliya Bhavan, which this Corporation literally thrust upon into the fold of the university a month or so ago leaving many things still incomplete like central cooling or better say central heat management in this building.
