The Central government today approved a new railway project for Jharkhand, which will not only benefit the State but will also reduce carbon emissions  and will save 32 crore liters of diesel annually.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that Indian Railways is working on the Koderma-Barkakana multitracking project. Experts believe that the carbon dioxide saved due to this multitracking project is equal to planting 7 crore trees.

Vaishnav said that this project will benefit 15 lakh population of 938 villages. Additionally, 30.4 million tonnes of goods will be transported through this route. This will benefit the environment.

Vaishnav was giving information about the decisions taken in the Council of Ministers after the Union Cabinet meeting.

The Railway Minister said that the 133 km long Koderma-Barkakana (Arigada) doubling project is a big project. A total of Rs 3,063 crore will be spent on this project. This is the shortest line between Ranchi and Patna. After the completion of this project, the connectivity of Koderma, Chatra, Hazaribagh and Ramgarh districts will increase.

One of the approved projects is related to the doubling of the 133 km long Koderma-Barkakana track. This track not only passes through a major coal producing area of Jharkhand, but is also the shortest and most efficient rail connectivity between Patna and Ranchi.
