After several hiccups and controversies the much-touted sewerage and drainage system for the capital seems to have taken the right path as the team of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) inspected several proposed sites in Ranchi.

“Now we know the exact population of the city so it will be convenient for us to go ahead with the project,” said CEO Dipankar Panda.

The team visited Bargai in Bariatu, loadih and Misirgonda the sites were the sewerage treatment plant of the centralised drainage system is expected to be installed.

The three member team which was on a two day visit to the capital at the behest of central government held two rounds of meeting with the Urban Development department and Ranchi Municipal Corporation on the project.

“They (JICA) will provide soft loans for the project so they discussed modalities of the project, loan repayment, and budgetary provisions for the projects among other things” said Deputy CEO

Shailendra lal.

The Japanese financial institution is expected to provide funds to the tune of Rs 685 crore to the project based on the detailed project report (DPR) prepared by Singapore based consultancy firm- Meinhardt Singapore Pvt limited. Interestingly, the firm which was selected back in 2006 had submitted a revised DPR couple of months back.

“The DPR has been updated by the firm and it was submitted few months back

with some rational changes,” added lal.

The mission team also discussed technical aspect of the project besides repayment of loan in the meeting held with the Urban Development department.

Meanwhile, the project which originally was part of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) is likely

to be completed by the

department.
