To improve police response time and make it faster, Jharkhand Police are set to launch centralised Dial 100 facility from the second week of April this year in 16 districts of the State. Police said that a state of the art centralised control was being set up in Ranchi which will be connected further with the PCRs so that they could be traced out easily in the hour of need.
“Earlier, each of the districts had their own dial 100 facility controlled locally and were confined to a few cities like Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Hazaribagh, Dhanbad etc. Now, the new system will be pan-Jharkhand covering at least 16 districts initially which will further be extended to the remaining districts also,” said IG (Operations) and Jharkhand Police Spokesman Ashish Batra.
Batra further added that Dial 100 now will be toll-free from anywhere in Jharkhand and the calls will reach directly to the centralised control room at Police Headquarters at Dhurwa in Ranchi. From there, the calls will be forwarded to the concerned district directly and then to the concerned Police Station, he said.
“This is an endeavour to improve response time making it faster so that police could reach out to the distressed person in minimum possible time and provide him the required help,” said Batra. A state of art control room was being set up for the same in Ranchi and will be connected to all PCRs thorough Global Positioning System (GPS) enabling them to locate their positions which will help them informing PCR positioned nearest to the caller, added Batra.
The moment a call is made, the name and address of a caller will flash on the screen and the operator, which will save time in gathering basic identity details of the caller. The system will have the facility to identify caller location through GPS and an inbuilt recording facility.
Though, it was at the installation stage where systems are getting installed following which equipments will be run on trial basis before actually introducing it for the people, it will not take more than a month to get it started full fledged.
“It is likely to be started by April second week as it is at the installation stage,” said the IG.
The objective behind introducing this system is to enhance accountability among policemen in providing quick and effective action to the needy people and increase the chances of quick relief for people in remote areas of any of the districts connected to it.
“Specialised training on how to react to the phone calls are being imparted to the policemen so that they could be deputed in the centralised control room,” said Batra.
Partially funded by the Centre, Unified Dial 100 project is part of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) aimed to enhance policing efficiency through e-governance. The new system is also to bring police, medical, fire stations and disaster recovery departments under its ambit.
The new system, based on a unified network and cloud computing system, will replace the existing analogue technology of Dial 100.
