Central Coalfields limited (CCl) has overhauled its own target of 55 million tonnes set for the year 2014-15. In its annual report released on Thursday, the subsidiary of the Coal India limited presented a figure of 55.64 MT of production which is 11.2 per cent more than the extractions during previous year.
The Miniratna company which had registered a growth of 4.1 per cent in 2013-14 reached to the double digit growth with same set of infrastructure and establishment. Releasing the facts, CCl Chairman-cum-Managing Director Gopal Singh lauded the achievement describing it ‘unprecedented’.
“It is new records and the CCl is at new height. The production figure has been unexpected and unforeseen in the history of any subsidiary of the CIl. We thank the Government for its support in getting land acquisition and forest and environment clearances. At the same time, the villagers also extended their support in making the production a reality,” said the CMD.
CCl’s coal production was stagnant at around 48 MT in the period of 2009 to 2013. Scenario at the coal major was also gloomy due to huge stock piled up for years and bottlenecks in getting possession of land for mining from the land owners.
“The company seems to have overcome the phase and we are confident of continuing the double digit growth. Jinx of 50 MT has been broken now. As CCl is operational in Jharkhand we have got tremendous support of villagers in getting land. I would like to assure that the company would keep inclusive growth of the people in the State on its priority,” added Gopal Singh.
Building further on the overwhelming performance, the company has put ambitious target of over 12 per cent growth and eyeing to take the production beyond 61 MT in 2015-16. This apart, the company has also been successful in removing over burden in the tune of 97.37 million cubic meter during 2014-15 which is whopping 65 per cent more than the previous year. Dispatch in the period was also all time high with 55.43 MT with 6.2 per cent growth. “During the span of two years i.e. 2013-15, six green field projects of about 40 MT capacity have been commissioned which has no parallel in the coal industry. The projects would be further expanded to over 100 MT in future,” said the CMD.
Content of washed coal has seen substantial growth from 9.6 per cent during 2013-14 to 21.4 per cent now. Three new washeries are in pipeline whereas all new mines with more than 10 MT annual capacity are being planned to have their own washery along with reject based power plant.
Talking about CSR activities, the CMD said that ITI at Bhurkunda and projects such as ‘CCl ke lal’ and multi-skill development centre at Barkakhana had been great success. He also expressed his agreement with Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das’ idea to form a CSR Trust in the State where companies would share their contribution for developmental activities collectively. As per CSR Act companies have to separate two per cent of their profit for developmental activities.
