CBSE 12 exam cancellation evokes mixed reactions from students

At a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Government on Tuesday decided to cancel the CBSE Class 12 board examinations due to the corona pandemic. Students and parents have mixed reactions on the decision of the Prime Minister. The decision brought relief to many students and parents who were facing anxiety and losing mental peace during this pandemic situation, but some opine that as cases are declining the Centre should have conducted the examination taking all corona protocols in mind.

Kumar Ankit, a class XII student of Kendriya Vidhyalaya, Hinoo said that the decision has made him happy as it was a big relief for students’ fraternity.  He said, “It is a great decision for all of us. Now most of the students are mentally free from the dilemma of board examinations. The results should be declared based on internal assessments and projects.”

However, there are many who feel that the Centre should have conducted the board examinations taking all corona protocols in mind. Gaurav Anand, a class XII student of DAV Kapil Dev Kadru said that CBSE should have conducted the examinations taking all corona guidelines. He said, “Students should have been vaccinated and after taking proper corona protocols examinations should have been conducted with increasing the number of examination centers.”

The students are also confused about how they will get admission to colleges now. What would be the criteria of college cut-off?

In Jharkhand 45,624 students of different CBSE affiliated schools will be affected. These students will be promoted for the first time without conducting any examinations. However, the CBSE till now has not declared about the evaluation process under which they will be promoted in higher class.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand Parents Association have demanded from the Jharkhand Government that just as the Central Government has canceled the CBSE ICSE 12th examination in view of the infection of Covid-19, in the same way Jharkhand Academic Council should also cancel the 12th examination.

President of Jharkhand Parents Association Ajay Rai has urged the Chief Minister Hemant Soren that just as the Jharkhand Government is imposing a lockdown under the Health Week due to the increasing infection of Corona, the Coronavirus is yet to be completely controlled. In view of that, the 12th examination should also be canceled.

Sources said that just like CBSE cancelling class X and XII examination, the JAC is also contemplating plans of cancelling matriculation and intermediate examinations.

The Jharkhand Government has decided to take the feedback of teachers for conducting the matriculation and intermediate examinations. With the surge in Corona cases in the month of April, the Jharkhand Academic Council had decided to postpone the examination. The JAC has given the task to Regional Education Deputy Directors and District Education Officers for taking feedback from teachers.
