The anti-corruption wing of Central Bureau of Investigation, Ranchi, on Thursday arrested a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Commandant Binita Kumari for her alleged involvement in corrupt practices during recruitment process in the CRPF. The bureau sleuths also found incriminating evidences from Kumari's residence, said CBI officials.

"We had received complaints against CRPF Commandant Binita Kumari posted at 133 Battalion of the CRPF in Dhurwa Ranchi that she was arranging fake fitness certificates for candidates aspiring for constables posts in Central Forces. She used to bribe some members of the medical board and get fitness certificates for those who were unfit," said CBI SP SK Khare.

"The officer used to run the racket with help of her husband Dr Arvind Kumar, who is a doctor residing in Kolkata. He used to get candidates and was also involved in garnering contacts in the medical board," he added.

Officials said some doctors of the CRPF had complained against Kumari that they had been contacted for the purpose.

"We received the complaint yesterday and conducted search operation at Kumari's house at Alkapuri Colony and her office. During the search some incriminating evidences against her were found after which we arrested her," said Khare.

Notably, a large number of candidates are aspiring for constables' posts in CRPF, BSF and other central para military services. The process of getting medical fitness certificates is a crucial one conducted by doctors from the CPMF and the successful candidates are then sent for the written examination.
