The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday filed a closure report at the Jharkhand High Court in Rs 500 crore Rural Electrification Scam case involving former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda citing lack of evidence against him and other accused persons. The Jharkhand High Court has already granted bail to Koda on July 30.

According to Koda’s advocate, the CBI has filed the closure report as there were no evidences against him and the other accused persons in the case. Koda’s advocate Bishwajeeet Mukherjee had earlier submitted before the court that there were no substantial evidence against him as charged by the CBI under corruption, cheating, forgery using forged documents and other sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Koda was in judicial custody from November 30, 2009 who was released in August this year after being granted bail in the same case.

Koda had earlier been granted bail in the other three cases pending against him in different courts. The Jharkhand High Court also acquitted him, along with his aide Binod Sinha on March 8 in the Rs 90-lakh

State Pollution Control Board scam and a graft case related to stone-crusher units.

His other former colleagues Kamlesh Singh, Enosh Ekka and Harinarayan Rai, accused in the multi-crore money laundering case and Enforcement Directorate cases have also been released from the jail. The scams were allegedly committed when Koda, an independent MlA, was the Chief Minister of Jharkhand supported by Congress, RJD and JMM, between 2006 and 2008.
