CBI court to deliver verdict on September 30

The Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court of judge PK Sharma will pronounce the judgement in ‘Love Jihad’ and torture of Ranchi resident and national shooter Tara Shahdeo on September 30.

The hearing of this case has been completed in the special CBI court. The court of CBI Special Judge PK Sharma has fixed September 30 as the date of verdict. The verdict will be given in the eight-year long harassment, dowry harassment and forced religious conversion case of Tara Shahdeo.

On the same day, the fate of accused Ranjit Singh Kohli alias Rakibul Hasan, who is facing trial, his mother Kausher Bibi Rani and former Registrar (Surveillance) of Jharkhand High Court Mushtaq Ahmed will be decided.

The ‘love jihad’ incident had come to light in August 2014, when Tara had claimed that she was pressurised and tortured by her in-laws to accept Islam after she married a person, who she thought was a Hindu. She was barely married for a month before she had to walk out of it to save her dignity and choice of following her religion.

Both were married as per Hindu rituals but Tara said that just a day after the wedding, she came to know that Ranjit was not a Hindu. His real name was Raqibul Hassan Khan and he was a Muslim. Due to this reason, this incident was reported as a possible case of ‘Love Jihad’ back in 2014.

The court has already granted her divorce. Shahdeo had filed the case with the Hindpiri police station accusing Hassan of marrying her by pretending as Hindu and then forcibly trying to convert her. The CBI took over the case in 2015 and started a probe.

On the orders of Jharkhand High Court, CBI took over this case in 2015. The ongoing debate in this matter has been completed. The testimony by CBI was completed on 25 February. After this the court recorded the statement of the accused. After recording the statement, the defense side testified in its own defence. The debate in the case continued after the testimony closed. Which was completed. Charges were framed against the three accused in the case on July 3, 2018. 26 witnesses have been presented by CBI.

CM Hemant Soren has also been a witness in the Tara Shahdev torture case. On May 3, 2023, Ranjit Kohli was asked by the court to submit the list of witnesses. Hemant Soren's name was also in the list of witnesses submitted by Ranjit Kohli. On 16 May 2023, JMM District President Mushtaq Alam appeared as the representative of CM Hemant Soren. Mushtaq Alam told the court that he did not recognize Rakibul Hasan. He said that in the year 2013, an Iftar party was organized at the CM's place. For this, the invitation card from the CMO goes to the party office. From there the senior leaders of the party collect the card from the office in-charge. One of them must have given the card to Rakibul or somehow got the card himself and attended the Iftar party. After this he is linking his relationship with the CM.
