CBI claims important lead in Dhanbad judge case

Published on:

The CBI on Thursday informed the Bench of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujeet Narayan Prasad of Jharkhand High Court that the agency has got important leads in the alleged murder case of Additional District and Sessions Judge of Dhanbad Uttam Anand.

Sources close to the CBI said that the agency is now investigating the possibility of involvement of some of the jailed gangsters, who might have hatched conspiracy to eliminate the judge for not getting favourable decisions.  There are reports of gangsters allegedly running extortion, executing murder and other serious offences from the jail.

The CBI informed the court that the agency is analysing and verifying those important leads and during the next hearing the CBI may be able to submit a report in this regard.

In the previous hearing the agency had informed the court that the judge was deliberately hit by a speeding auto rickshaw on the morning of July 28 when he was on way to his residence after a morning walk.

In the previous hearing the CBI joint director Sharad Agrawal had to appear before the court as the court was unhappy that the agency failed to make any breakthrough in this case. He had said that the agency is investigating whether accused auto driver Lakhan Verma and Rahul Verma had hit the judge as a part of conspiracy on instruction of some other persons.

During the course of hearing the court had made an oral observation that murder of the judicial officer lowered the morale of judicial officers. The High court had pointed out that if the murder case of a judicial official is not solved soon it will not be a good sign for the judicial system of the country since it was for the first time when a judge died in this way.

During the previous hearing the court had expressed displeasure that the CBI could not be able to investigate beyond two accused persons Lakhan Verma and Rahul Verma.
