Dhanbad unit of Anti-Corruption Bureau of CBI has lodged an FIR against the official of postal department Pawan Kumar Singh for allegedly disproportionate properties worth Rs 40 lakh by misusing his office.
Singh is posted as postal assistant at Barganda sub post office in Giridih district. During his tenure in Giridih he amassed properties during October 2010 to December 2019 which doesn’t match with his actual income and expenses. “Last year we had searched his house during investigation of a cheating and forgery case. We secured a number of documents about investments and properties raised by him. Examination of these documents clearly established that Singh had misused his office to raise movable and immovable assets. On the basis of the findings the CBI finally lodged an FIR and further investigation is going on,” said a senior official of CBI.
Investigation revealed that during the check period he earned Rs 32.22 lakh as salary as well as loan. The total expenditure during check period was Rs 24.22 lakh.
The FIR was lodged under section 13 (2) read with 13(1) (E) of Prevention of Corruption Act and an inspector rank official of CBI Ashok Ghosh has been asked to carry further investigation.
Singh is among the key accused of the postal department who committed scam worth around Rs 12 crore by making fraudulent withdrawal from as many as 24 fake saving accounts at the post offices. In this connection the CBI had booked four postal officials namely Md Altaf, Shashi Bhushan Kumar, Basudeo Das and Pawan Kumar Singh in December last year.
